9 Ways to Buy Time on the SAT SAT / ACT Prep Online Guides and Tips Many students say their biggest problem on the SAT is running out of time. In this post, weââ¬â¢ll cover some basic time-saving SAT strategies. Strategies for All Sections Get familiar with the test ahead of time. Know the instructions and formulas provided so you donââ¬â¢t have to read them on test day. They wonââ¬â¢t be different from whatââ¬â¢s in the current blue book (The Official SAT Study Guide). This also provides the psychological advantage of comfort and visual familiarity on test day. Practice. There is a limited number of question types on the SAT, and if you do even a few practice tests, youââ¬â¢ll start to get used to them. But even if you donââ¬â¢t prep with us, make sure you practicea lot. Donââ¬â¢t second guess yourself. Indecision is the biggest time waster for many students on the SAT. After you eliminate a few wrong answers, which is much easier than picking the right one, check the question to make sure you know what youââ¬â¢re looking for and pick from whatââ¬â¢s left. Donââ¬â¢t come back to the question until youââ¬â¢ve answered all the others. Strategies for the Reading Section Donââ¬â¢t read the passages. That is, donââ¬â¢t read them in full before you look at the questions. They all fall into one of five basic categories and have many things in common, so there arenââ¬â¢t a ton of surprises. We at PrepScholar recommend a skim of the passage rather than a full reading. Most of the questions require you to reread sections of the passage anyway, so you might as well get only the specific details you need rather than try to remember every aspect of the passage. Strategies for the Writing Section Donââ¬â¢t go for too much in the essay. There are examples in the blue book (the Official SAT Study Guide) of essays that got perfect scores using only one example. Many students think that the essay needs to be crammed with historical or literary information, but a personal experienceif it suits the prompt and your thesisis no less valuable. Focus on the structure and flow of the essay, as well as using specific details, and donââ¬â¢t worry about the quantity of academic information it contains. Donââ¬â¢t get sucked into analyzing weird sentences. The SAT loves to use awkward or outdated phrasing to make Writing questions more difficult. Often, students get totally bewildered and freak out. But these bizarre sentences are still trying to test the same Writing concepts as all the other questions, so you just have to strip away the nonsense and look for that number agreement or verb tense problem. Strategies for the Math Section Skip the ones that you donââ¬â¢t immediately understand. Weââ¬â¢ve all had the experience of staring at a question for a full minute and thinking, ââ¬Å"How the heck am I supposed to figure this out?â⬠On the SAT, these questions must be saved until the end of each section. Every question on the test is worth the same amount, so the #1 priority is to get all the easy questions first. After that, you can start worrying about the harder ones. Even if the question isnââ¬â¢t technically hard, but youââ¬â¢re having trouble wrapping your mind around it, skip it and come back. If it seems too hard, look for an easier way. Many of the Math questions on the SAT are designed to waste your time if youââ¬â¢re not clued in to the specific set of shortcuts they use. Pythagorean triples, for example, can tell you the measure of the hypotenuse of a right triangle (when you know the base and height) without doing any calculations at all. You can figure it out using the Pythagorean theorem, but thatââ¬â¢s wasted time. Learn the shortcuts. Pythagorean triples are only one kind of shortcut on the math section; there are many others, which you can learn from us (or other sources, of course). If you donââ¬â¢t bother to do this, youââ¬â¢ll almost definitely run out of time. The Bottom Line There are lots of ways to buy yourself more time on the SAT and thus improve your score, but the common denominator among them is time. Youââ¬â¢ll have to spend some time in order to do it right. Not only could the chants and noises of the ND student section not be heard very clearly on the other side of the arena, but also Fairfieldââ¬â¢s side had many discriminating chants that you failed to acknowledge. Furthermore many of the spectators on Notre Dameââ¬â¢s side were middle school children, who I distinctly witnessed many of them wide-eyed and awed at the studentsââ¬â¢ energy and support of their team. You all accused them of chasing people away from our school in essence, when in fact many of the children in the building definitely felt all the more reaso n to attend ND, given the fact that thei! r student body was so plentiful, supportive, and energetic during the game. I modified questionnaires on Sunday and Monday along with reading other relevant information from the book, Research Methods for Business Students. I read chapter-7 based on data analysis on Tuesday and Wednesday for 4 hours each day to gain insights over how to analyse primary and secondary data On Wednesday, I started distributing designed questionnaires to identified participants based on snow ball sampling method. I distributed questionnaires to 25 people on Wednesday personally and 30 more questionnaires were distributed on Thursday. I also identified 45 more respondents in the week and distributed questionnaires to the remaining 45 respondents. Overall, the entire process of distributing questionnaires took 4 hours of time on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday In the upcoming week, I will be analysing data collected through 100 respondents. I have already received 50 answered questionnaires and by the end of Monday, I am expecting to receive the remaining questionnaires. Once, I receive total numbers of questionnaires, I will be analysing them critically using graphs and charts. I am also reading the secondary information that has been presented in the literature review just to identify the relationship between primary and secondary information, if any. The idea is to present data in an ethical and transparent manner to highlight the views and opinions of respondents on effective delivery of m-government in Oman. The whole activity will take 2 days of time that means findings chapter will be completed by Tuesday. In the coming week, I have also planned to complete the discussion chapter including current status of m-government in Oman, current issues and way forward.
